Our Story

PREAMBLE

"We the descendants of the Civil Officials, Officers, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines of the Confederate States of America in order to perpetuate the spirit and virtues of our ancestors, to honor their service and sacrifice to the fundamental principles of states rights, provide for the common defense their legacy, promote the education and edification of the true history of the South, and secure the blessings of our birthright, for generations unborn and our posterity do ordain and establish this organization."

The Sons and Daughters of Confederate Veterans was organized in Mount Pleasant and San Antonio, Texas, by both men and women who are living heirs of those who served faithfully during America's greatest conflict known as the "Civil War" (1861-1865). We served to honor the memory and legacy of the Civil Officials, Officers, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines that served the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War as defined in U.S. Public Law 85-425: Sec. 410, 38 U.S. Code, Sec. 2306, and the Congressional Act of March 9, 1906.

Our Mission

To cultivate the ties of friendship, support, and a sense of family among the descendants, regardless of man or woman, of those who share commemoratory of serving in the Confederate military and government.

To promote and assist in presenting an historically accurate history of the War Between the States and the Confederate States as well as all history of the United States of America, including the collecting of data, documents, and historical materials, as well as promoting historical preservation related to the War Between the States on a local, state and national level.

To help educate the general public about the flags of the Confederate States of America, not as a political symbol, but as emblems of a heroic epoch for which our forefathers fought to defend and died.
